Eterna Therapeutics is seeking a Sr. Director/Director, Gene editing who will direct, plan, and guide a research group developing advanced mRNA-based genetic medicines. Eterna is focused on exploring the role that cytokine, gene editing, and cell therapies can have in treating patients with cancer, blood disorders, and monogenic diseases.
Job Summary
Successful candidates will have a drug development background and experience in gene editing, mRNA and lipid nanoparticle delivery. The candidate must be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment and have and a desire to create novel therapies for patients. This position will be based in Cambridge, MA.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Contribute to the strategic direction of Eterna's research and product development
- Direct major projects and monitor outcomes to advance mRNA-based gene editing programs internally and with external partners
- Lead a team of Scientists and Research Associates
- Research, plan, and direct the experimental work performed by the team or others
- Provide guidance to direct reports and collaborating staff on technical issues
- Respond flexibly to changing priorities and deliver results in a timely fashion
- Effectively communicate and report/present data at internal and external meetings
Education and Experience
- MD or PhD degree and 8 to 12 years’ post-graduate research experience
- Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry with robust understanding of drug discovery and development
- Directed a team focused on the discovery and development of advanced therapies
- Extensive experience with gene editing required
- Prior experience directing in vivo gene editing product development preferred
- Additional scientific expertise in mRNA and lipid nanoparticle delivery highly desirable
- Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record in top tier journals or equivalent industry accomplishments
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to lead a diverse and inclusive team
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in a laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
